I’m sharing with you, only few of the nayivedyam (food offerings) I prepared on this auspicious day of Sri Krishna Janmashtami.

What is Krishna Janmashtami:

Sri Krishna Janmashtami, also known simply as Janmashtami or Gokulashtami, is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu. Incarnated mainly for the eradication of evil physical forces in the society.

Lord Sri Krishna is called the ‘Jagadguru’, implies he is the GURU of all Guru(s). There is no GURU equal to him. He is the incarnation of the SUPREME BEING, born in this world to enlighten the humanity towards oneness.

How is it celebrated:

Hindus celebrate this festival by fasting, singing, praying together, preparing and sharing special foods, visiting Krishna/ Vishnu temples. Dressing up babies / young children as Krishna or Gopikas on Janmashtami festival is a popular Hindu tradition across the world.

Being so fond of my Indian culture and traditions, I enjoy dressing up and grooming my 3 children. My kids feel very much fascinated for being adorned as such 🙂

Foods offered to Lord Krishna:

There are specific food offerings made for each Indian festival. Nanda Gopal / Little Krishna was mostly fond of any dairy products such as milk, ghee, malai, butter, cheese, curds, milk based delicacies. Apart from these, as per the ancient scripts, he was also fond of rice flakes also called as atukulu / aval /poha in Indian languages.

Hence, the food offerings are made with dairy as a main ingredient.

Here, I’m sharing with you, only few of the nayivedyam (food offering) I prepared on this auspicious day.
