Indian style Stuffed Banana Peppers / Gutti Mirapakaya / Bharwa Mirchi

Sukhi Bharwa Bajji Mirchi, is a South Indian style, easy and quick, side dish recipe using homemade fresh protein rich stuffing made from scratch. Recipe below has step wise pics and tips.

Equipment

  • 1 Small frying pan (for making the stuffing)
  • 1 Blender/ Spice Grinder/ Mixie.
  • 1 Small mixing bowl (to take the stuffing into)
  • 1 Large Frying pan (to cook the stuffed peppers)

Ingredients
  

  • 5 count Banana Peppers / Bajji Mirchi
  • as per taste Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Peanuts / Palleelu
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame Seeds / Nuvvulu / Til
  • 1 tablespoon Whole Cumin Seeds / Jeera
  • ¼ teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoons Besan / Chickpea Flour
  • a handful Chopped Coriander Leaves / Cilantro
  • as required Water
  • 4 tablespoons Cooking Oil

Instructions
 

Prepare the Stuffing:

  • Put a medium size pan on stovetop under medium flame.
    Add the Peanuts / Palleelu, Sesame Seeds/ Nuvvulu and Whole Cumin / Jeera to the pan.
    Dry roast until you get a pleasant aroma.
    Switch the flame off and let them cool completely.
    Now, take the roasted items into a spice blender /  mixer and make into fine powder.
    Transfer this into a separate bowl, along with the salt, besan / chickpea flour and half of chopped coriander leaves.
    Add enough water and make it into a thick paste.

Filling the Stuffing:

  • Take the Banana Peppers / Mirchi, wash under running water, dry them with a kitchen towel. 
    Slit each length wise and make an opening to insert the stuffing.
    Using a tiny spoon fill all the peppers / mirchi with this spice powder mix.

Cooking the Stuffed Banana Peppers:

  • Put a large frying pan on stove top under medium flame.
    Pour the oil, gently place the stuffed peppers.
    Sprinkle little water (3 tablespoons) and close the pan with lid.
  • After 5-7 mins, open the lid and turn each pepper to the other side.
    Close the pan with lid, and let it cook this side for more 5 mins.
  • Now, open the lid and check if they are properly cooked and then switch the flame off.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve. Done!!
