Aratikaya Vepudu / Plantain Fry / Raw Green Banana Fry (Stove Top, Air Fryer)

Green Banana Fry, a South Indian style, simple fry recipe with Raw Green Banana / Plantain. Recipe below has step wise pics, tips, video for both, Stove Top and Air Fryer methods.

Equipment

  • Frying pan (for stove-top method)
  • Air-Fryer for air-fryer method

Ingredients
  

  • 4 count Raw Bananas / Plantain / Aratikaya / Kacche Kele (small size)
  • teaspoons Salt (or as per taste)
  • 2 teaspoons Red Chilli Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 4 tablespoons Cooking Oil (for stove top method)
  • 2 teaspoons "            "    (for air fryer method)

Instructions
 

Prep Work:

  • Wash the raw bananas and cut into halves and peel the skin.
    Cut them into pieces just as the size shown. Take the pieces into a small bowl of water, so that they don't turn black.

Stove Top Method Plantain Fry:

  • Put a non-stick pan on stove top under medium flame. Add oil (3 tablespoons), let it heat. Then, add all the raw banana pieces.
    Mix everything such that the oil is coated to every piece.
  • Keep stirring for every 2-3 minutes. Later, after 5-6 minutes add the salt and ½ tablespoon of oil. Mix up everything.
    After couple of minutes, the pieces will soften because of salt we added.
  • Check the softness of the fry, take a piece, press it against two fingers. It should mash up easily.
    At this stage add the red chilly powder and remaining oil.

Air Fryer Method Raw Banana Fry:

  • Place the raw banana pieces onto the air fryer mesh. Spread them throughout.
    Close the lid, Set mode to AIR FRY, time to 10 mins, temperature to 200c/390F.
  • After 5 mins, open the air fryer, add 1 to 2 teaspoons of oil.
    Mix up everything. Close the air fryer again.
  • The air fryer beeps after 10 mins time is done.
    Now, add salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, 1 to 2 teaspoons of oil. Mix up everything well.
    Close the air fryer, set mode to Air fryer, time to 2 mins, temperature to 200C / 390F.
  • Check the crispiness of the pieces. Fry for few more times if needed. Later transfer into a serving bowl. Done!
