WHY IS GANESH CHATURTHI CELEBRATED

Ganesh Chaturthi / Vinayaka Chavithi is celebrated as the birthday of Ganesha / Vinayaka / Ganapathi!! Ganesha, the elephant headed God of Hindus, is the elder among the two sons of  the divine couple, God Shiva & Goddess Parvathi!!

The festival generally falls on Bhadrapatha Suddha Chaturthi (as per Hindu calendar) that is September.

Lord Ganesha is the God of New Beginnings and the Remover of Obstacles. He is the God of wisdom and even Intelligence as well. It is celebrated with great pomp & devotion throughout India and even in countries like Nepal, Europe, USA, Malaysia, Thailand, Canada, Australia, South Africa.

We celebrate Ganesha Chaturthi every month on bahula chaturthi, which we call as SANKASHTA HARA CHATURTHI.  But, the Ganesha chaturthi of this particular day forms the most pious one.

HOW IS GANESH CHATURTHI CELEBRATED

Mainly, we install the IDLE / statue of God Ganesha at home or community hall or temple or road junctions. And then, we decorate the deity very artistically. We decorate ourselves with Indian traditional and festive attire. Later, we do the religious pooja and make divine food offerings too.

As per individual family customs, we immerse the deities of Lord Ganesha in any near by river/ lake or even buried in soil on 3rd, 5th, 7th or 10th day. As per my family custom, we immerse the deity on the 3rd day.

All this is done with utmost faith, love and devotion towards our dear Ganesha.

About Ganesh Chaturthi / Vinayaka Chavithi Thali

Undrallu, Modakam and Ladoos are the most favourite foods for Ganesha to be offered as nayivedyam / bhog. I did include these as part of my food offering.

This platter is a festive meal which I prepared on the same day and I offered to the Divine God during the special festive pooja to the deity.

I truly enjoy cooking and very specially such festive spreads. I can feel the pure bliss of feeding / offering to the SUPREME and then having it as a blessing from HIM!! 🙂

Anyhow, have a look at the below platter. I just added recipe links which I already have in the site.. Click them to get each of its detailed recipe with step wise pictures.
